Red Nose Day March 18th

 For Red Nose Day our class took part by wearing red. We made donations and we designed red noses for a competition.







World Book Day 4th March

 


For World Book Day, we dressed up as characters or authors of book. We also made our own non fiction books based on the book Flanimals by Ricky Gervais, visited Foyles book shop for our books and we designed book tokens. Here are pictures from our activities.












All about triangles

 

This years STEM week was themed all around triangles. In year 5 we learnt the names and properties of the different triangles. We made different animals using tangrams and we made painting in the style of Kandinsky who used geometric patterns in his art. Here are some of the results.







Building a floodplain

 


As part of our theme on cycles we have been learning about the different parts of the river. As part of our learning we built a model floodplain using junk materials, a black bin liner and so the rain would show watered down white paint in recycled plastic bottles with holes in their lids. We had to predict where the water would pool and where it would be likely to flood if the rain continued.






Visit from the Bristol University DigiMakers

 


On the 2nd February, we were visited by Students from the engineer department of Bristol University. They shared the varied opportunities that engineering can offer. Then they work with us to use  Micro:bits which needed to be programmed to make a digital pet. It was tricky but we got there in the end. Thank you Bristol University DigiMakers.









Computing: Vector drawing

Year 5 have started to create vector drawings. They have learnt how to use different drawing tools to help them create images. We now recogn...
