I want to tell you some important things

Dear Year 5 Class,
I am writing this to you all because you are having to miss school because of the Covid 19 virus that is spreading around, and your parents and carers have had to keep you at home as part of keeping everyone safe.
Yesterday may be your last day at school for a long time. When you come back lots of things will have changed. It won’t be Spring any more. You might come back into the next year group. There might be new teachers and new friends to get to know. BUT... lots and lots of things won’t change.
Your school grown-ups will carry on thinking about you every single day. We will laugh at the funny things you have done, and will wonder if you are still getting better at your handwriting and what you are reading now. We will hope you are doing the very important job you have been given to help stop the spread of Covid 19 – and are washing your hands!
We will carry on planning learning activities for you to do. We will always care about you even though we won’t be able to see you every day for a while.
I want to tell you some important things.
- Don’t be frightened. You may hear some things that you are worried about, but these are not worries for you. Tell someone you trust about your worry and let them look after it for you.
- The children who are going to be coming back to school are not more special than you. We are going to be looking after them for a while because their parents can’t, because they are doing some particularly important jobs right now.
- There are some good things happening in amongst the bad things.
- There is less air travel and as a result the environment is getting a bit of a rest, and, who knows, maybe we can work out new and better ways of doing things in the future because we have had to.
- People are talking to each other and offering to help each other more. That is a very good thing, make sure you do that too.
Even though you will be missing some school, you can still learn and try your best at everything you do. You are a very special bunch of people.
Please keep singing, playing, making, drawing, writing, problem-solving, and learning about our amazing world. We are having an adventure and like all real adventurers, we have to be brave.
Miss Matthews

Maths Escape Room

To celebrate maths week, we took part in a maths escape room challenge. The children worked in teams to solve mathematical problems and puzzles against the clock.

Year 5 worked incredibly well as a team and supported each other every step of the way!

Natural History Museum London - Animals and Life Cycles

To set off our new topic in style, we visited the world famous Natural History Museum in London. We took part in an amazing workshop where the children were able to become scientists looking at real artefacts and recording data. The children then explored the different areas of the museum on a trail, looking for information linked to mammals, reptiles, creepy crawlies and other animal kingdoms.

Ancient Greece Museum Trip

The children visited the Bristol Museum, along with Year 6. We took part in workshops looking at different artefacts from Ancient Greece as well as exploring the museum.
